Felecia Sanchez January 3, 2020 Coloring Page For Kids
Every kid enjoys activities that involve doing something with their hands, whether it’s drawing, coloring, building anything with Lego bricks or immersing themselves in different kinds of crafts. All of those activities represent excellent ways for kids to have fun. However, each and every one of your kid’s activities provides them with a number of benefits. In addition, all of them offer significant lessons that every child needs in order to develop physically, psychologically and cognitively. One of the best activities for kids which triggers and enhances development is coloring. Coloring is far more than a mere pastime for kids and a recreational activity to keep them occupied for a while. Coloring pages offer a number of benefits that can help children later in life. They are very useful educational tools that provide kids with extremely important benefits that can prepare them for school and help them develop their personalities. Without further ado, let’s take a look at what some of the benefits of coloring pages are.
New York Magazine published an article by Penn State College of Medicine neuroscientist Jordan Lewis in support of coloring books. Lewis referred to new research in the journal of Disability Rehabilitation on how practicing creativity in visual art can improve physical health. The journal Science offered some fascinating results on how different colors enhance specific cognitive tasks. Exposure to red tends to enhance performance on detail-oriented tasks while blue tends to support more creative efforts. Coloring is the ideal balance between the two in combining flights of fancy with the need to stay within the lines.
Coloring is more than just a great way to spend time with your kids — there are health benefits that include lower anxiety, take away stress and improve cognitive functioning. It’s no wonder why kids love the fun and freedom of coloring. The big surprise, though, is the new popularity of coloring books as stress relievers. Take a look at the scientific evidence in support of coloring. The Atlantic reported on the health benefits of coloring, specifically citing a host of research studies on the role of coloring in relieving stress. Among the studies they cited was the journal Palliative & Supportive Care which showed that art can greatly improve coping resources. The journal Art Therapy found in 2012 that patients were able to lower their anxiety levels through simple, repetitive activities that included coloring in mandalas.
Another point to make, which may seem obvious to you, is the fact that coloring in will help your children learn about colors, you should notice that as your child colors more and gets older they will start to use the appropriate colors for whatever it is they are coloring in, for example they will start to color apples as green or red, whichever color apple they are most used to seeing and eating, or they will start coloring animals in their appropriate colors. This may seem obvious to somebody who has known their colors since they can remember, but you had to learn it at some point and this is a great way for your child to learn theirs. Coloring in will also teach your child some great hand eye coordination, when they first start coloring they will have a tough time keeping within the lines but as they progress their skill will increase and eventually they will have no trouble at all remaining within the lines.
The final point I wish to make is twofold, firstly coloring is great for stimulating your children’s imagination and letting their minds roam free, but it also has a serious and beneficial psychological angle to it, many child therapists will use coloring as a way to see how a child is really feeling, the way they express themselves through colors is very indicative of their state of mind and the emotions they feel. This is another great benefit of coloring for children, it can help you to understand how exactly your child feels at any given time. All of these are some of the great benefits of coloring pages, knowing what you now know can you ignore how great they are as an educational tool but also as something fun for your child to do at the same time? .
Although many children naturally love coloring, some might resist when it suddenly appears as a new and different activity. There are three things you can do to encourage them to color and get creative. Make the materials available and easy to access. If they are too young to handle them alone, at least make them visible so your children get used to seeing them. Choose an interesting variety of paper textures and colored pencils.Start coloring yourself. When they see how much fun you are having, they will want to join in. Nobody likes homework. Introduce coloring as a reward and spark their interest with a few coloring games. Here are a couple suggestions to get you started.
