This is the update blog for ‘The Changing City’, a book published in December 2010 which has history and architecture walking tours in Central Vancouver. (It’s now out of print).

The updates on this blog are created by the co-authors, Andy Coupland and John Atkin. We add a new post whenever we spot a new project in the area covered by the book – roughly the city’s ‘Central Area’ – from Burrard to beyond Main Street, and from 12th Avenue north.

Unlike the book, where all the images are our own, the update section of the website includes renderings provided by architects and developers to illustrate how their development may eventually look.

We don’t leave previous versions of our posts on the site; we update them as projects are completed, often with a reference to the original intention, and sometimes a reminder of how it changed over time.

We don’t (generally) try to record progress on construction – there are other web discussions like Skyscraperpage for that. On this blog we usually only revisit the scheme when it’s complete.

You may also enjoy visiting our companion blogs, ‘What was there before?’ to see before and after images of new developments in Vancouver, and ‘Changing Vancouver’ to see archive and contemporary pictures, with some of the history associated with the older image.
