Another of the City / Province non-market housing projects has been completed. This one is a 9 storey building that sits next to the Fir Street off-ramp at the southern end of the Granville Bridge. There are 62 units in the $22m building, run by the Katherine Sanford Housing Society and designed by NSDA Architects. In scale it fits well with the surrounding condos – far more so than the tiny French restaurant in a century-old house, Zizane, that was on the site until 2005.
The Sanford Building was the first to get some of its funding from the Streethome Foundation and provides integrated support services for individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
