Maynards – West 2nd Avenue

We published the developer’s images of Cressey’s ‘James’ and Aquilini’s ‘Maynards Block’ projects 15 months ago. Now both are effectively completed. Here’s Maynards, with the retained heritage building on the corner of Wylie Street and W 2nd Ave, and the curved face of the much larger new 13-storey block by Cambie Bridge behind. The design obviously evolved somewhat from the initial renderings, which showed a more angular design with a greater variation in colour. The finished development has quite a dark and monotonous colour pallet, although once the new owners start adding furniture to the balconies it might look a bit more cheerful.

As it isn’t in South East False Creek – just next to it – the building isn’t notable for its energy efficiency either, even though it’s across the street from the Neighbourhood Energy Utility which seems to be, to say the least, a significant lost opportunity.
