Three Harbour Green

Here’s the building putting the green into Harbour Green – literally rather than in any particularly sustainable way. Harbour Green is a set of three increasingly expensive condo towers that finish the run of buildings along the Coal Harbour waterfront, and this final tower is just reaching completion. Unlike the first two Harbour Green towers that were designed by James Cheng, the third is an IBI/HB design which the building website identifies as a Jim Hancock design. The developer, Aspac, are now involved in a huge waterfront project in Richmond and built some of the earlier Coal Harbour towers to the west. There’s one small city-owned site left to develop, and the Park Board restaurant by the Convention Centre, and the entire Coal Harbour neighbourhood will be built out – although there are one or two small commercial buildings that could still be redeveloped. Three Harbour Green isn’t exactly inspiring in design terms, and the plan that allowed the main floor to be townhomes rather than retail seems like a lost opportunity. The public art at the base may make the project worth checking out.
