Belmont Inn

We haven’t found any pictures of this project yet, but the Vanvouver Heritage Commission recently reviewed (and broadly supported) a current development application on East Hastings Street for the Belmont Inn. The Inn is a 3-storey 1904 building that sits next-door-but-one to the Afton Hotel (better know as the home of the Ovaltine Cafe). The proposal by Birmingham & Wood (see 217 East Georgia further down) would see the existing building remaining just as it is today (but fixed up with the help of a facade grant) , and a ten storey Seniors Supportive or Assisted Housing building at the rear of the site, separate from the Belmont Building, while maintaining the heritage building as a residential rental building.

If this can be accomplished on a 25′ lot with buildings on either side it will be a remarkable achievement, and another noteable addition to the revitalisation of the Downtown Eastside.
