Ginger

Ginger was completed at the end of 2009, and set a new design style for the Downtown Eastside. Located on Main Street – often carrying heavy traffic – Ginger was designed by Gomberoff Bell Lyon with deep balconies to place the living spaces back from the street. The bright orange and green glazed panels can be found in even more bold locations in the Olympic Village buildings, also designed by GBL. More recent policy changes allow the possibility of slightly higher buildings on Main Street near Ginger, so this corner of Chinatown could see further revitalisation in future.
